Biography

Zijie Zhao is a postgraduate student at the University of Sydney, studying for a Master’s degree in Information Technology. He completed his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Hefei University of Technology. He has also worked as an electrical engineer at Hangyang and Unilever. He is participating in the Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program with the supervision of Professor Athman Bouguettaya.

WebIoT: A portal for dataset collection, visualization and analytics

Project Description:

The goal of this project is to construct a secure online hub that aggregates and handles data sourced from a diverse range of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as thermal cameras, smart plugs, drones, and devices that respond to their environments. This hub is intended to act as a consolidated platform, offering swift access to different data sets for those in research and development roles. The platform will also be configured to gather data at regular intervals from IoT devices sensitive to their environment, located on the School of Computer Science campus. Designed with user experience in mind, the portal will facilitate easy data exploration and visualization, and is future-proofed with the capacity to incorporate additional data sets down the line. Prioritizing security, the platform will incorporate strong authentication and authorization systems, as well as secure mechanisms for data storage and transmission. All in all, this project presents a practical opportunity to develop and construct a secure platform for data integration.
